Love the tallow. The rose balm is mire hydrating than anything ive tried in the past several years. It smalls amazing too. The rose tallow is the perfect moisturizer for my face. LAVENDER ON THE HUDSON IS GREAT FOR CALMING MY DRY SKIN AMAZING PRODUCTS.
I’ve been wanting to try tallow for a while, but every time I’ve opened a jar, the smell has immediately put me off.
I found this lovely brand at the Fine Day Fair in North Salem over the weekend, and I was genuinely surprised by how little “cow smell” there was. I say *little* because there is a faint scent when you first open the jar or first apply it to your skin, but it fades very quickly. For me, it disappears in less than a minute.
When I first opened my jar, which was nicely sealed, I did notice the scent. I also smell it slightly when I scoop some out with my fingers, so I usually let it warm up on my fingertips for about 30 seconds before applying. Once it’s on my skin, the scent is completely gone.
That said, this is a rich product. Not heavy in a clogging way, but more in the sense that it feels like a deeply nourishing balm or overnight mask. The first night, I covered my whole face with it and woke up with my skin feeling incredibly moisturized and looking really good. As an overnight treatment, it’s wonderful.
For daytime, I don’t use it all over my face. I just apply it to the areas that tend to get dry, like around my eyes, brows, nose, and the sides of my mouth. It feels rich at first, but it settles in nicely.
I bought the Rose Sea Buckthorn Face Balm, which has the strongest essential oil scent, and I chose it partly because I thought it would help mask the tallow smell. But honestly, the tallow scent fades so quickly that now I’m curious to try the unscented version too.
I had always heard that essential oils weren’t great for skin, but the woman at Fine Day Fair explained that the oils they use are chosen for their skin benefits, not just for fragrance, which I appreciated.
I’m only a few days in, but so far, so good. I even used a little on my 9-year-old son, and he woke up with the most beautiful, soft skin. I love that it feels simple and nourishing enough to use on him without worrying about harsh ingredients his young skin may not need.
Overall, I’m really happy I found this brand. It feels thoughtful, beautifully made, and genuinely effective.
